Parental engagement is a key driver of children’s learning, wellbeing and inclusion, as it strengthens continuity between home and school and helps reduce socioeconomic gaps in educational outcomes. However, meaningful engagement remains difficult to achieve in many countries due to persistent barriers such as low trust, cultural and language gaps, time constraints, weak communication practices, and uneven school capacity to involve parents beyond formal structures. Strengthening parental engagement requires targeted investment in trust-based outreach, dedicated liaison roles, school-community partnerships and integrated service approaches, alongside stronger teacher preparation and clear frameworks that balance parental participation with professional boundaries.
