Under the title ‘Towards the International Year of the Family 2024’, the Commission of International Organizations of the Mexican Senate organized a forum panel on the preparations for the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family in 2024, with the partnership of IAPF and IFFD.
The president of the Commission, Senator Nancy De la Sierra Aramburo, highlighted the importance of strengthening the family for the reconstruction of the social tissue in the country. She pointed out the importance of making visible and improving the institutional capacity of nations, with the aim of establishing solutions to problems related to families and their development. She also affirmed that public policies and laws that focus on the family as their target help to achieve cohesion, integration, stability and social pacification. Finally, she stressed the need for alliances and public spaces to develop this task.
The Focal Point on the Family at the United Nations, Renata Kaczmarska, mentioned the four megatrends that will be at the center of the anniversary, and pointed out that it is essential to incorporate a family perspective in the analysis of migration policies, with the aim of facilitating family reunification, social protection and intergenerational support.
The director of Communication and International Relations of IFFD, Ignacio Socías, pointed out that civil society organizations must contribute their voice, experience and good practices to propose that the social role that families have to be recognized.
The United Nations Representative of IFFD Alex Vazquez spoke about the Civil Society Declaration being prepared for this anniversary, and Juan Antonio Lopez Baljarg about the national context in Mexico for the observance.
