The municipality of Envigado, located south of the city of Medellín, has become the first municipality in Colombia to be part of the Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Families Project. The city has a population of 264,000 and offers one of Colombia’s highest standards of living, characterized by a low rate of unmet basic needs. Mayor Raúl Cardona connected with the initiative through Famof-IFFD, opening the door for Envigado to take part in the international network of cities committed to strengthening families as a key pillar of sustainable development.

On February 23th, 2026, Envigado officially signed the Venice Declaration, a document that promotes the integration of family-focused policies into sustainable development strategies. By signing the declaration, the municipality joined the growing network of cities and local governments participating in the project. Through its participation, Envigado aims to contribute to the exchange of best practices and the development of policies that support families, social cohesion, and long-term community well-being.

The Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Families Project brings together municipalities from different parts of the world that are committed to placing families at the center of public policy as a way to foster more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable communities.
