In Statements

At the 58th Session of the Commission on Population and Development (CPD58), the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusive, evidence-based solutions for sustainable development — with a specific focus on mental health and parenting support.

Through our official oral statement and our side event titled “Addressing Parenting Support and Mental Health for Sustainable Development,” we highlighted the often-overlooked role of families in achieving health and well-being goals, especially SDG 3. Drawing on perspectives from research, education, healthcare, and urban planning, we emphasized the urgent need to invest in early childhood development, parenting skill-building, and accessible care systems as integral parts of population policies.

These contributions build upon the momentum generated by the 63rd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD63), held in February 2025. That session reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to the 2030 Agenda and called for coordinated action ahead of the Second World Summit for Social Development, to be held in Doha, Qatar. IFFD believes the lead-up to the Second World Summit offers a unique and timely opportunity to prioritize family-oriented policies as a foundation for social development and social cohesion.

As we continue our engagement across the UN system, the European Union, and intergovernmental institutions worldwide, we are committed to opening dialogue among Member States, academia, civil society, and the private sector—ensuring that families are recognized not only as beneficiaries, but as key drivers of inclusive development.
