In many countries, birth registration comes as the premier family-friendly policy in order to know and asses the existence and needs of children. Policies need data to be well design, appropriately implemented and further evaluated, without a registration of births, policymakers work blindly and without certain achievement of any set goals.

Society first acknowledges a child’s existence and identity through birth registration. The right to be recognized as a person before the law is a critical step in ensuring lifelong protection and is a prerequisite for exercising all other rights.
