The 2nd Family-Friendly Cities Forum took place in Mexico city organized by the Instituto de Análisis de Política Familiar. The second edition of the Forum will spur new signatories for the Venice Declaration and the Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Families Project led by the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) in more than 5 countries.

During the Forum, Ignacio Socías, Director of Advocacy of the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD), emphasized the importance of families to achieve the Goals of Sustainable Development (SDG). Likewise, he pointed out that without the active collaboration of families, it will be difficult to fully achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Roberto Ciambetti, Governor of the Veneto region, Italy warned about the impact of artificial intelligence on personal relationships, stating that no machine can replace human passion, emotions or conscience, which is why the family nucleus before technology is essential. In this sense and through his participation through a video, he called on families to be protagonists in the fight against climate change, “families must be prepared, they must be ready to face a climate event.”

José Alejandro Vázquez, Director of International Relations of the IFFD, highlighted that in Mexico more than 50 regions have already aligned themselves with the Inclusive Cities for Sustainable Families Project by signing the Venice Declaration. The Venice Declaration serves them to align with the 17 SDGs and the 172 points of the urban agenda through 10 strategic lines, thus integrating the family vision into the 2030 Agenda.

For his part, Rodrigo Delmasso, Secretary of Youth and Family of Brazil, presented the programs of the government of the Federal District – of his region – aimed at supporting vulnerable families, such as the School Materials Program, the Gas Card and the Prevention and Surveillance of Domestic and Family Violence.
He highlighted the importance of combating hunger that affects many families in the region. He stressed that this fight is a priority for the governments of the region, since guaranteeing food security is essential for the well-being and development of the most vulnerable communities.

Finally, Laura Esquivel, senator-elect for the National Action Party, in charge of moderating and inaugurating the event, stressed that when families are sustainable, cities and the entire world have the possibility of changing in a positive and lasting way.
