International Day of Families 2024
& 30th Anniversary of the International Year
15 May 2024, 10 – United Nations Headquarters (New York)
Some of the more than 100 participants in the observance event, which included representatives from NGOs, academics and lawmakers from all over the world who have been involved in the preparations of the Anniversary. It featured the launch of two publications, presentations on the outcomes of regional meetings and civil society initiatives, like the Civil Society Declaration, recommendations on family policies for climate action, and an interactive discussion.

In line with General Assembly resolutions recommending research and analysis of megatrends, the meeting gathered experts from different geographical and professional backgrounds to explore climate change and its impact on families; the role of families in climate action; indigenous perspectives on climate change and sustainable family farming; and the interlinkages between climate change and demographic trends, forced migration and displacement, sustainable urbanization and new technologies.
