In Statements

Oral Statement by Alex Vazquez, permanent representative of IFFD, at the 2023 high-level segment of the ECOSOC, on the preparations for the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family.

Distinguished Chair,
The International Federation for Family Development is present in 70 countries centered on parenting education with skill-building programmes to help families and societies to face various challenges.
In this regard, our Federation has been fully involved with the Preparations for the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family. We are committed to share substantial contributions to enrich the discussion and promote the role of the family unit in sustainable development.
In fact, the Civil Society Declaration for the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family tries to convey the needs of families worldwide through the claims of transnational civil society organizations building up on the Secretary General’s proposed megatrends.
In this regard, we have been working together with UN-DESA and other civil society partners to focus on each of the suggested megatrends..
For instance, as part of the Preparation of the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family in 2024 we have organized 23 raise-awareness events, 4 expert Group Meetings, 3 Focus Groups, 32 experts’ recommendations. At the same time, we will support research, awareness-raising activities and policy actions, at the national, regional and international levels, on the impact of technological, urbanization, migration, demographic and climate change trends on families.
We invite all member states and stakeholders to join us for the upcoming regional expert group meeting in America and Asia. The experts’ recommendations will help to design and implement family-friendly policies for better societies.
Thank you, Chair.
