The International Federation for Family Development (IFFD) and the IPC – Facultés Libres de Philosophie et de Psychologie have organized an event with students of the Faculty in Paris, to present the International Advocacy Workshop organized by IFFD next September. This workshop will provide an opportunity for students and young professionals from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds to learn about how IFFD advocates for families at the United Nations and the European Union. Attendees will also have the chance to listen to professionals who advocate for the importance of developing family policies that meet the present needs of families.
The event started with Athanase Fabre, from IPC, followed by four students who presented the work they have been doing over the past months. These documents will serve as the zero drafts of the advocacy plans to be presented on the three pillars of the Copenhagen Declaration for Social Development. Their documents deal specifically with “Education to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty”, “Full and productive employment and decent job to achieve work and family integration”, and “Social protection to overcome vulnerable situations in the family”.
Perrine Bruvier, a former IPC student who works for IFFD at the United Nations, shared her experiences and explained the importance of civil society in bringing the reality of families to policymakers. Finally, Ignacio Socias interacted with the 60 students present, highlighting the need to showcase the role of families in development.
