Madeleine Wallin and Caroline Hoglund from Haro and FEFAF, together with Perrine Bruvier from IFFD presented the Civil Society Declaration on the 30th Anniversary of the International Year of the Family at this year’s UN Commission on the Status of Women. They took the floor and addressed to Member States, UN-System and other Civil Society Organizations during a side event organized in the United Nations Headquarters by the Permanent Mission of Hungary and Parent’s House Foundation.
The Declaration has been drafted for a better recognition of the role of the family in achieving the sustainable development goals. Two points relating to the event’s topic were specially mentioned: the value of unpaid care and work, and the importance of choice for women in early childhood development.
Dr. Chemba Raghavan, Senior Advisor and Deputy to Chief at the Early Childhood Development section of UNICEF, was one of the panelists. She highlighted that “parenting support programs and family-friendly policies can provide time, finances and services” for families.
Some good practices of family-friendly policies were showcased during the meeting, especially those “expanding access to childcare promoting different types of provision – to meet diverse family needs”.
