The UK could be hit with an epidemic of myopia similar to Asia where 90 per cent suffer from it if youngsters spend most of their time indoors. The problem is caused by elongation of the eyeball which means vision beyond two metres is blurred and affects between 20 and 30 per of adults in the UK. Dr David Allamby fears the trend of toddlers and young children using tablets and game consoles could have a devastating effect on their health.
