The UN DESA Focal Point on the Family, Renata Kaczmarska, the director of International Relations of IFFD and some brazilian politicians and academics have been part of an event to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the International Year of the Family, organized by the Instituto Brasileiro da Família in Sao Paulo on 24 March 2014. The goal was to present and discuss about policies and strategies to support families at the local level, as the way to face the challenges of the present socio-economic and demographic reality, as well as raise awareness about the importance of empowering families.
